Dartmouth School of Dance is an established dance school in the heart of the South Hams, Devon, located in the beautiful Dartmouth. Many classes are offered in: ballet, tap, modern, musical theatre and street jazz for both fun and competitive training where the pupils have the option of undertaking exam qualifications. The children also get many opportunities to perform in Festivals and events such as Dartmouth Regatta, as well as the Whole School’s Dance Show at least once a year. In addition to this, the School offers regular workshops with dance professionals and performers.

The Townstal Community Hall in Dartmouth has a modern spacious, mirrored studio with a sprung wooden floor. There are kitchen and changing facilities along with a large free car park at the Community Hall.

Mrs Joleen Wood, Principle of Dartmouth School of Dance

Joleen Wood is an accredited ISTD/BTDA trained Dance Teacher. She has consistently achieved high marks in all three disciplines of Ballet, Tap and Modern which allowed her to successfully gain her teaching qualifications in 2006. Joleen also has a Double Award Advanced Level qualification in Performing Arts achieving an excellent result of AB. In 2006 Joleen took over the Dance School and is wholly committed to ensuring it’s success and the happiness and success of her pupils. She is fully CRB checked and First Aid trained.

Miss Kelly Tucker, Teacher at Dartmouth School of Dance

Kelly has been an assistant teacher and a huge part of the school for 7 years. Kelly has completed her Freestyle teacher training course and is currently studying her BTDA Certificate in Dance Education in order to enter pupils in their dance exams. Kelly has gained her Grade 7 Ballet and Modern and is currently taking her Intermediate Ballet and Modern exams in november. Kelly also gained A* in GCSE Dance, is CRB checked and First Aid Qualified..

Success stories

The School will participate in the annual Chance to Dance shows at the Exeter Northcott Theatre where it is a chance for the students to dance alongside other local dance schools on stage as part of a professional show.

Molly Jones has been selected as Junior Royal Ballet Associate and attends weekly classes with the Royal Ballet also Daisy Jacob and Molly Jones were selected from hundreds of dancers and performed with the English National Ballet in Coppelia in 2016.

Immarni Slaney now has a full scholorship for Elmhurst School for Dance linked to Birmingham Royal Ballet and will be attending boarding school in September.

Kelly Tucker achieved a Gold Platinum Award in her Intermediate Modern Exam acheiving over 90% in her examination.

The school consistently acheives 99% pass rate for all Dance examinations.

The schools Modern Group Under 12years competed in Plymouth Dance Festival and came 3rd against other dance schools in the whole of the South West..

The school will be performing in this years panto at the Flavel Theatre, Dartmouth "Ali Baba"

Olivia Merrifield has been successfully selected as a Ballet Boost Ballet Associate and will attend regular lessons with professional ballet artistes from the Industry.

Shannon Ormrod and Daisy Jacob have been selected to be part of the South West Theatre Ballet Company and will be performing their production of Beauty and the Beast later this year.

The school have celebrated successful examination results with nearly all students gaining Distinctions and Platinum awards.
